CHOOSING A DECORATIVE CONCRETE MIX.

Here are the choices you have when you decide to go with decorative concrete installation:

Coloured Concrete

Coloured concrete is a popular service in the Lower North Shore that provides an eye-catching finish. You may choose from a range of coloured oxides that are added to the concrete mix, to produce the appearance you desire.

Exposed Aggregate Lower North Shore

One of the most popular choices for decorative concrete is exposed aggregate. The process involves selecting an exposed aggregate mix from either of our two suppliers, which are Ablestone or Geostone; after the concrete is in place, we apply a product called prime exposure and return the next day to expose the stones to high-pressure cleaning in the area. The end result is a textured, one-of-a-kind finish that's uniquely yours.

Honed Concrete

For anyone running a home business, the simple, contemporary design of honed concrete floors makes for easy maintenance and a durable, non-hazardous option for flooring. Concrete that is honed will have a smooth  surface that is used in outdoor spaces where slip-resistant surfaces are a must.

Things to Consider

Choosing the right decorative concrete mix for your project is a bit more difficult than it may appear. The first thing to consider is the overall aesthetic look you're aiming for. Do you want a sleek and modern design or a more rustic look? Secondly, what will fit in with the rest of the environment, such as the landscaping style and colours of the structures around us.

If you're not sure what texture and colour to use for your property on the Lower North Shore, our team of experts at Mason Concreting can help. We've worked with many people over the years, so we know how to best match each customer's unique preferences when it comes to selecting a finish.

FAQs.

  • What does the installation process look like?

We can handle the whole installation procedure in-house at Mason Concreting. This includes earthworks, formwork, steel, concrete supply and finishing.  We also ensure that saw cuts are completed within 24 hours of the concrete being poured, to minimise the risk of shrinkage cracks. If we have installed honed concrete, our staff will be completing the honing process approximately two weeks  after the concrete has been poured.

  • Does my new decorative concrete need to be sealed?

If you choose colored concrete or exposed aggregate, we strongly advise sealing the area to guarantee protection and longevity for your new concrete. The procedure is simple and typically takes two days to complete. To allow enough time for the concrete to cure, sealing is usually completed 28 days after the concrete has been poured.

  • What distinguishes exposed aggregate from honed concrete?

The surface of honed concrete is smooth and matte Exposed aggregate is similar to honed concrete in that the stones are exposed.

However, a textured surface is produced by applying a special chemical called prime exposure, which is washed away the next day after the concrete pour.

Each time we pour concrete, we use a beautiful mix from one of our two providers, Geostone or Ablestone. The mix selected will determine how the overall concrete finish appears. Whether you’d like a smooth finish or enjoy a textured appearance is up to you - for more information, check out our honed concrete page.

  • Is decorative concrete easy to keep clean?

Decorative concrete is easy to maintain. All that is required is a good sweep and a light hose down. For long-term upkeep, a deep high pressure clean and reapplication of sealer can be done every few years.

  • I'm considering using decorative concrete, and I'm wondering what types of mixes are available?

There are several decorative concrete mixes to select from. Our two suppliers are Geostone and Ablestone - Contact us today to receive the latest range charts.

  • How long will it take to install the decorative concrete?

Typically, it takes about four to five days to complete the procedure, including any earthworks, for around 50-100 m2. If concrete sealing is required, this will take place at a later time after the concrete has cured and this process will take one to two days.

  • Is it cost-effective to use decorative concrete for your property?

The cost per m2 for decorative concrete is typically lower than that of other materials such as cobblestones and pavers, which necessitate the installation of a concrete blinding slab. The price per m2 for decorative concrete varies based upon the concrete mix that you choose.

  • Do you service my area?

For all of our concreting services, we are available to clients on the Northern Beaches and Lower North Shore, Sydney.
